Description
'Story Inside' is the debut album from London-based 6-piece band 'The Simon Lasky Group', which includes Shanti Jayasinha on flugelhorn and guitarist Luca Boscagin. The album features nine original compositions by pianist and composer Simon Lasky.
The musical palette of flugelhorn, piano, electric and acoustic guitars, electric and fretless bass, prominent percussion (including tabla and congas) and drum kit takes some conceptual inspiration from the Pat Metheny Group. The through-composed extended form compositional style focuses on texture and atmosphere and draws from Simon's classical training as a composer. The grooves are Latin, rock and pop with poly-rhythmic African influences and with the drum kit as a colour rather than omnipresent. Rich extended jazz harmonies, expressive lyrical melodies, a narrative and sometimes symphonic approach to structure 'Story Inside' takes the listener on a musical and emotional journey.
