Description
Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek was a musical chameleon, stylistically perhaps the most multifaceted composer of German late romanticism, and of all his colleagues perhaps the most difficult to classify. Prior to the beginning of the major CPO edition of his major works a few years ago, he was known only to a few experts as the composer of the 'Donna Diana' overture. This dazzling CD features both the 'Chamisso Variations' and the tragic variations on Jewish melody Kol Nidrey. To make the stylistic variety of this CD unsurpassable, CPO has added the dazzling 'Comic Overture' and the only two historical recordings on which Reznicek can be heard conducting his own works.
