Description
Reissue of a 1979 solo recording by US pianist and Blue Note recording artist Walter Davis Jr., which is appearing on CD for the first time.
"On November 22, 1979, a recording was scheduled at the Barigozzi Studio, Milan, with Roy Burrowes on trumpet, the South African bassist Johnny Dyani (the long serving member of Chris McGregor's Blue Notes), and Clifford Jarvis on drums, which was released as Blues Walk. Later that same evening, Veschi and Davis were talking about piano players over dinner, and conversation turned to solo piano recordings. Davis expressed his long-held desire to make a solo recording and without further ado, Veschi booked the same studio they recorded Blues Walk for the following morning. Davis turned up at the studio with a list his own originals and jazz standards, and he and Veschi chose nine titles. Throughout, his bebop roots are apparent - "I don't think I could wash that out of me..." - Stuart Nicholson (from the liner notes)
