Born 8th June 1941 in Larue, Arkansas and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Oxford was a traditional Country singer who was enormously popular in Europe in the 1970's but was unbelievably deemed too "Country to get radio play in the USA".
Vernon was originally signed to RCA Records in 1965 but by the end of the decade he had been dropped by the label. A few years later thousands of Country Music fans in the UK and Sweden had fallen in love with Vernon's music and signed a petition which was sent to RCA Records in Nashville begging them to re-sign Vernon.
Due to his successes touring the UK which included appearances at the Wembley Festival, he was signed again to RCA Records in 1974.
