Description
Carole King and Gerry Goffin were one of the most highly-regarded and successful songwriting and production teams of the 1960s, penning some of the most memorable hits of the era. This 2-CD set examines the early years of their partnership, between 1959 and 62, and includes many songs which have gone on to become pop standards.
They typified the Brill Building Sound and their songs crossed musical boundaries, topping both the US pop and R&B charts. During this period, both Carole and Gerry frequently worked with other Brill Building writers, including Jack Keller, Howie Greenfield, Cynthia Weil, Barry Mann, Phil Spector, Big Dee Irwin, Artie Ripp and Artie Kaplan, all of whom feature as co-writers on this set.
'Some Kind of Wonderful' comprises sixty memorable tracks, presenting a vast spread of hits, misses and collectors' rarities, featuring stellar artists like The Drifters, Gene Pitney, The Shirelles, Bobby Vee, The Crickets, The Ronettes, Brenda Lee, Dion, The Cookies, The Crystals, Little Eva, Billy Fury, Tony Orlando, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Rydell, Gene McDaniels and many more.
Several of the rarer tracks featured herein are unavailable elsewhere on CD.
