Country music as a genre has been alive and kicking for over a century - a period in which this mixture of the folk traditions of European immigrants, cowboy ballads, Irish and Celtic ddle songs and the Blues went from a spurned 8222;working class music" to the most listened to rush hour radio genre in the United States. This 10-CD box with all the songs that made it to the top of the C&W-charts since their creation in 1944 until the year 1962, demonstrates the fact that the triumph of 8222;Country & Western" began as early as during the middle of the 20th century. All the great stars of this golden era of American country music are immortalized during this musical time journey with their great hits, from Eddy Arnold to Johnny Cash – a whole lot of really well-known titles, but also some that have surprisingly not entered the collective memory. It is also interesting to note that some of the #1-artists in the American C&W charts were stars of Rock & Roll, such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, or Jerry Lee Lewis, or even Jazz or Rhythm & Blues, like Nat 8222;King" Cole or Louis Jordan.
