In the course of the Beethoven anniversary hänssler CLASSIC received a special demand for the meanwhile classical and in many aspects exemplary recordings of Hellmuth Rilling from the 1990s. Could they be made available in a consolidated way for collectors and choir music enthusiasts? This 3 CD box set contains a recording of the Missa Solemnis op. 123 of 1997, the Mass in C major op. 86, recorded in 1993, and the only oratorio of Beethoven Christus am Ölberge“ op. 85, recorded in 1994. All these recordings were made at the Stuttgarter Liederhalle. Helmuth Rilling, longtime leader of the Stuttgarter Bachakademie, was the founder of the Gächinger Kantorei and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart. He became world famous with his unresting exploration, procuration and interpretation of the works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The first ever complete edition of the works by Bach on sound recording media was done under Rillings direction and will remain a milestone in the history of music recording. Additional to the works of Bach Rilling used the professional capacities of his outstanding ensembles for the development, performance and documentation of great choral works of all centuries."
