Description
Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns (1759-1796) is one of the great poets of friendship and this album, from the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir and director Paul Mealor, gives you a flavour of that quintessentially Scottish feast of friendship, the Burns Night Supper.
The album, which was a Classic FM Album of the Week, was hugely successful when it was first released in January 2017. The traditional elements of the Supper are all here, from the Selkirk Grace to Auld lang syne, from the Immortal Memory to the hearty, noisy music-making described in the rollicking tavern scene in Tam o' Shanter: 'The night drave on wi' sangs and clatter, / And ay the ale was growing better ...'In new and exciting arrangements, almost all written specifically for this recording, the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir and friends invite you to share this celebration of Scotland's incomparable songmaker.
