Description
The two musicians, jazzers, composers, and moreover genuine improvisers Uli Johannes Kieckbusch and Gunter Baby Sommer have already released their much-acclaimed duo CD Schwebende Riefen, bebende Tiefen (2017) and then with NEOS - expanding to a quartet with various flutes and a viola - Quietude Fragile (2021) with the Baby Sommer Kiecktett. Now, as a duo (piano and percussion), they return to their origins, to their nucleus, immediate and authentic in their seemingly endless creativity, just in time for Gunter Baby Sommer's 80th birthday.
The compositions are mainly by Uli Johannes Kieckbusch. The exceptions are Pendulo and Still ruht der See, which Kieckbusch and Sommer composed together.
Sommer is one of the most important representatives of contemporary European jazz, one who has developed an unmistakable musical language with a highly individualised set of percussion instruments.
Composer and pianist Kieckbusch grew up with classical music, whereby the music of Johannes Brahms, to whom he is related, always held a special place in his family. For himself, however, he discovered the blues early on and gradually expanded his spectrum.
