Description
Last Night From Glasgow is thrilled to bring you the eleventh album from The Pearlfishers. 'Paco and Joanne & Other Stories' is released in June 2027 on two shades of coloured vinyl (Fuchsia Pink & Seville Orange) pressed locally in Scotland at Seabass Vinyl. The band's debut album 'Za Za's Garden' was released in 1993. The following year, in the midst of post-Za Za writer's block, David Scott locked the door of the main recording studio, borrowed a cassette 4 track and set about writing five songs - any five daft songs - over two days. One of them became a peripatetic feature of Pearlfishers shows over the next 30 years but never found a home on record until David took a break in recordings for 'Making Tapes For Girl's' and recorded some simple tracks with Johnny Smillie at Glasgow's La Chunky studios. And that's how Paco and Joanne became the title track of this new collection.
A few other old songs showed up too. Something David wrote with the late Jim Prime also in 1994 - 'A Letter To Lisa' - and a version of a 1984 song called 'Red Sails', originally released by Chewy Raccoon. Story songs. That set the band off on a narrative journey and all of the songs that followed have an element of storytelling. Journeying along Victoria Place in Camelon, Falkirk past Fairlie St and the grounds of the Camelon Juniors FC these are autobiographical songs with family and place at the heart of them.
And in the same way that stories grow so did these recordings; most of them started with just guitar and vocal or piano and vocal and gradually other Pearlfishers started to appear, adding rhythm, light and shade and completing that unmistakable Pearlfishers sound. The story is completed with the front cover - a beautiful painting by Dominique Cameron whose 2024 exhibition in Edinburgh took its name from The Pearlfishers' classic 2007 album Up With The Larks.
The album will be released in late June 2027.
