Description
To 'Everything A Season' is the fifth album by The Magic Lantern, the musical pseudonym of singer-songwriter Jamie Doe, an artist who blurs the boundaries between folk, jazz, and contemporary classical music.
Recorded live at the legendary La Buissonne studio in France by Gerard de Haro, the sound of 'To Everything A Season' captures a vivid emotional immediacy, the richness of the ensemble arrangements and the spirited improvisation wonderfully supporting the profound songwriting.
Gerard de Haro of La Buissonne produced this deeply moving album, with the band made up from London's burgeoning jazz scene, including multi-instrumentalist ECM artist Fred Thomas (bass), Matt Robinson (piano), Dave Hamblett (drums) and Keiran McLeod (trombone). Complemented by French tenor saxophonist Robin Fincker and Swiss flugelhorn player Matthieu Michel (ECM Records), 'To Everything A Season' is both dreamy and direct, using the space around Jamie's immediately arresting voice to accentuate its emotional weight.
Lyrically, 'To Everything A Season' is The Magic Lantern's most powerful and accomplished achievement, a mature work that establishes Jamie Doe as one of today's most assured lyricists. On 'To Everything A Season', he has created a set of songs that examine the boundless depth of human experience with devastating and joyous results.
The Magic Lantern has been praised by numerous publications, including The Guardian, Songlines, Acoustic Magazine and Folk Radio UK, as well as Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Lauren Laverne, Guy Garvey and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, Late Junction and Night Tracks on BBC Radio 3, and Jamie Cullum, Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris on BBC Radio.
