Description
The Sonatas for Gallichone are rare works by the Italian Baroque composer Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello. Within the surviving works of Brescianello are eighteen groups of pieces for gallichone, a type of lute. The manuscripts that have been recovered do not specify whether these were intended to be called 'sonatas', 'partitas' or 'suites'. The nine works chosen for this disc have been called 'Sonatas' based on structural analogies consistent with the many sonatas for lute written by contemporaries of Brescianello.
