  • Description

Stevie Palmer is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter, most recently recognised as a featured solo performer in the 2018 Scottish Traditional Music Award winning stage production of ‘Far, Far From Ypres’ (DVTRAX2024), in which he performed his own stand out composition ‘Black Is The Sun’ to much critical acclaim. This has very much brought Stevie to prominence on the Scottish music scene.

His work draws on a wide variety of influences ranging from fellow Scottish artists such as Dick Gaughan, Michael Marra and Karine Polwart to English singer/songwriters such as Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Paul Weller.

Following a lengthy fatherhood focussed hiatus after his first critically acclaimed release on Greentrax, ‘Heart Print Shadow’ (CDTRAX347), Stevie returns with the passionately written and meticulously crafted new album ‘We Become The Sunshine’, co-produced with Dick Gaughan and Ian McCalman, supported by Creative Scotland and featuring a wonderful selection of performance contributions from: Karine Polwart, Kim Edgar, Mary MacMaster, Kristan Harvey, Mr. McFall’s Chamber, Phil Cunningham, Steven Polwart, and Allan Knox. Dick Gaughan is a particular admirer of Stevie’s work.

The arrangements are superb, providing a wide variety of sounds on the individual tracks and the album goes much further than the usual folk genre and is likely to be appreciated and enjoyed by all lovers of good music generally. The album was mastered in late February by Peter Haigh of Pier House Studios but has been delayed due to the CoronaVirus lockdown but early feedback from listeners suggest this is a very special release, with which M.D. Ian Green totally agrees. It has also been suggested that there is not a weak track on the album.

The album was recorded at Ian McCalman’s Kevock Studio and design is by John Slavin of Designfolk.
