Description
Adapted from the 1775 play “Le Barbier de Seville” from Beaumarchais, this opera proved to be Paisiello's biggest success and even after Rossini’s own Barber, created in1816, the Paisiello opera continued to be more popular by comparison.
With time, however, this situation changed as Rossini’s version gained in popularity and Paisiello’s diminished to the point it fell from the repertoire.
This live recording from Florence replaces the Walhall recording (WLCD0282) with Rolando Panerai and Graziella Sciutti, now deleted.
It is a rare recording of Ettore Bastianini, available for the first time when he was at the height of his powers.
