Norwegian singer-songwriter Siv Jakobsen quickly became a favourite of the indie-folk world with her first EP ‘The Lingering’. Tours supporting Bear’s Den, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Damien Jurado followed. Her latest album, the widely acclaimed ‘A Temporary Soothing’, received incredible reviews from the likes of Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine and Under The Radar, and a nomination for a Norwegian Grammy, Spellemann.
The vulnerability of her work has gained her many listeners across the world with Jakobsen having accrued 35 million streams to date. She’s spent the last few months supporting the likes of José González, The Lumineers and Susanne Sundfør and is now preparing to share her latest body of work with the world. “Gardening” will be released in January 2023, with 4 singles and one EP-release (including the two first singles) build up period that started in April 2022.
In Siv’s own words: “As I’m sure many artists did, I spent the pandemic writing and recording a new body of work. Inspired by the vast pool of stillness and time I found during the pandemic for reflecting on the past, I found myself drawn to writing about a chapter of my life that I thought I had already tackled fully and closed the door on. Gardening tackles a particular relationship from my past, and its effect on me in the past, present and future. When writing it I felt I was doing a continuous and elaborate form of emotional gardening, whilst in real life I was tending to my modest but lovely garden in my home in Oslo. I found great pleasure and comfort in the physical task of gardening, weeding and tending to my modest patio of flowers and edible plants, and their colours and metaphors seeped into my writing. It is a record I am immensely proud of, and one that I hope can make others who have been through similar things feel seen and less alone.”
