  • Description

First 'Carlotta' in Phantom Of The Opera. Then 'Davina' in Con Passionate. Now the curtains are raised for Shan Cothi's next show - the launch of her new CD.

This is the opera diva's first solo album that has been produced by her in co-operation with Owen Thomas. The Welsh National Chamber Orchestra conducted by John Quirk accompanies her. Also appearing on the CD are Only Men Aloud, Serendipity, Myfyr Isaac (guitar), Richard Roberts (piano), Laurence Davies (piccolo trumpet) and Catrin Finch (harp).

The content is a concert of multi lingual favourites – from the opera world to musicals and traditional Welsh songs. They include "Be Still My Soul" (Sibelius), "Caro Mio Ben" (Giordani), "Once Upon A Time In The West" (Morricone), "Les Lilles de Cadix" (Delibes), "Ah! Je Veux Vivre" (Gounod), "Pie Jesu" (Fauré), "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" (Lloyd Webber), "Auf Flügeln des Gesanges" (Mendelssohn) and three Welsh songs: "Dros Gymru'n Gwlad", "Suo Gân" and "Lisa Lân".

On the CD sleeve, Bryn Terfel writes "There's no denying the musicality, the sensitivity which are integral to Shân's performance – but always touched with that wonderful sense of humour and that undeniable twinkle of the eye. There you have it. The ingredients are there. The equation solved."
