The name is programmatic: at its founding in 2008, bassoonist Johannes Schwarz and saxophonist Sascha Arm-bruster christened their duo “sound-spaces�.
Apart from the instrumental sounds, electronics are an essential factor in soundspaces, forcing both instrumentalists to expand their playing techniques to extremes and to unfold their “sound� anew in each piece, in productive interplay between natural and synthetic sound generation.
Expressivity and richness of association, the works on this recording tell their own stories, even if their content, contexts and meanings remain hidden in abstraction.
