Description
Rosemary Clooney (yes, actor George Clooney's aunt), hit the Billboard charts with 25 titles and inspired her audience on several tours all over the world. Undoubtedly, Rosemary Clooney was one of the female superstars of the American pop scene in her day. Born in 1928 in Kentucky, Rosemary Clooney began her singing career in 1948. She went to New York and signed a record deal with "Columbia Records" the same year. A&R-man Mitch Miller ("River Kwai March") took Rosemary Clooney under his wing and produced her first real commercially successful records. Rosemary Clooney was now invited on television and radio shows, toured a lot, appeared in nightclubs, and even Hollywood knocked on her door. She made a great impression next to superstar Bing Crosby in the movie "White Christmas". However, further trips to the world of film were not quite as successful. Like many other stars, Rosemary Clooney appeared on records with famous colleagues - including Guy Mitchell, Bing Crosby, Tony Pastor, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Buddy Cole, Harry James, her sister Betty Clooney, and Marlene Dietrich. Rosemary Clooney was one of the most popular all-round artists in the 1950s. In 2002, she received a "Grammy" for her life's work. Rosemary Clooney died at the age of 72 that same year.
