Leave Me Alone - Minimalist Music for Clarinets
Steve Reich's "New York Counterpoint" has inspired this CD and forms its cornerstone. Ronald Van Spaendonck, fascinated for a very long time by minimalism and so-called 'new consonant music', performs here this mythical piece for 11 clarinets all alone recording each part by means of multi-tracking. A titanic work in purely musical terms as well as in terms of technical challenges realized in close collaboration with a passionate sound engineer.
Reich's masterpiece is surrounded by other clarinet ensemble pieces in a similar style, all recorded in the same way by means of multi-tracking. What is displayed here is an international postmodern musical panorama: the composers featured are among the foremost representatives of this musical trend in their own countries and their national and international reputations are strongly established.
Pleasure and enchantment are the two words that best describe the atmosphere of this CD, as much for the musician as for the audience.
