Worldwide, Amsterdam is the city with the largest number of languages spoken (from 177 different countries), This diversity is by no means a recent development. Indeed for ages past the Amsterdam population has been characterised by a diverse mix of ethnic groups, cultures & languages.
This tradition of cross-fertilization is kept alive by Mazzeltov, which blends contemporary musical styles and songs with klezmer. They can sound like a 1930s theater ensemble, an 1880s klezmer group, a 1950s jazzband-with-singer, a 1980s Turkish band, a 2000s musical orchestra! At all times, the ever vibrating voice of Rolinha Kross gives the music emotion, power and humour. Jazz improvisations appear where you would never expect them, and occasionaly gives the music an oriental touch, strong rhythms make you want to dance.
