Description
Featuring special guests Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) and Daniel Melingo.
Rodrigo Leão is one of the stars of contemporary Portuguese music, founder of the seminal group Sétima Legião whose music helped revitalize Portuguese music in the '80s, he also formed the internationally renowned group Madredeus with Pedro Ayres Magalhães.
His own music draws on a wide range of influences, cinematic in scope, it's beautiful, romantic and powerfully moving music that references traditional Portuguese music, tango and chanson but draws as well on contemporary classical music and the very best popular music - 'In my music you will find Michael Nyman, tango or French music', he says. Pedro Almodóvar has joined the praise, describing Leão as one of the most inspired composers in the world. Collaborations with artists such as The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon (who features in his latest album A Mãe) or Beth Gibbons of Portishead and Ryuichi Sakamoto, both featured on the album Cinema, are also proof of the range of Leão's music and it's universal appeal.
"Lush romantic music that oscillates between soaring soundscpaes, intimate heartfelt piano interludes and Kurt Weil-style concert hall songs… irresistible' – Songlines
