Description
Throughout his life Witold Friemann compose around 1300 pieces, including over 400 songs. This album, presenting 18 vocal miniatures for soprano and piano and baritone and piano, allows us to get to know a small part of the oeuvre of a composer whose works are not performed that often nowadays.
The songs refer to the Neoromantic style yet echoes of impressionism and expressionism can also be heard. Full of expression, they are evidence of the author's compositional craftsmanship, but also a reflection of the richness of his personal experiences. The message is reinforced by words drawn from works of outstanding poets -including Mickiewicz, Kasprowicz and Norwid. During the composer's life, they were performed by the best Polish singers, also abroad.
The recorded material is performed by three artists, actively performing on important stages. Involved in the performance of both new and early music, regulars of well-known festivals. Their suggestive interpretations leave no doubt - Friemann's output is worth discovering and recalling.
