Description
"Private Life" was an AOR band fronted by singer Kelly Breznik, featuring former members from the backing band of Rod Stewart, as well as musicians who had previously played in Axis and Badfinger. Private Life's music was slick, polished, and keyboard-based AOR, sounding like a cross between late-'80s Heart (musically) and Vixen (vocally). This 2-on-1 collection features both of the band's albums, 1989's Shadows and 1990's Private Life, presented in their entirety: 19 radio-ready tracks, including a strong cover of Van Morrison's "Domino" and a serene, unexpected rendition of "Amazing Grace." The first 10 tracks come from the excellent Shadows album and represent the band's strongest melodic-rock material. The second half compiles the follow-up album Private Life, produced by Eddie Van Halen, whose slick production gives the songs real polish. On this second album the band leans toward a harder-rock approach, though it sometimes lacks the tight focus and keyboard-driven melodic flair that made the first album so memorable.
