First time on vinyl for this 2014 album by the late great bassist Paul Jackson, who sadly passed away in March 2021.
Bassist, vocalist, composer-arranger and producer Paul Jackson was one of the world's most important and influential electric bassists and a founding member of Herbie Hancock's ground-breaking band, The Headhunters. 'Groove or Die' is a soul-funk outing that features multi-instrumentalist Xantone Blacq and first-call drummer Tony Match.
Known as a "musician's musician", Jackson's creative output shaped a new direction in contemporary music. He was one of the world's leading electric bassists and generations of bass players around the globe have been inspired by his signature infectious grooves.
After years of touring the globe with Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Chick Corea, and countless other visionaries, Jackson assembled a new trio featuring multi-instrumentalist Xantone Blacq and drummer Tony Match. The Paul Jackson Trio toured to sold-out club and festival audiences in Asia and Europe during which they developed a new programme of Paul's original music. The result was 'Groove or Die', the trio's debut release.
