Description
'Adelson and Salvini' is a three act opera by Bellini, with a libretto by Tottola based on the 1772 novel Epreuves de Sentiment by de Baculard d'Arnaud. The rarely performed piece is here brought to life by a fine cast of soloists, the Orchestra Accademica Del Conservatorio Santa Cecilia, Roma and conductor Maurizio Ciampi.
Bellini's first opera, Adelson and Salvini, premiered in 1825. The autograph copy of Adelson and Salvini in the first version consists of 389 pages. It is stored in the Museum of Catania with other spurious material, with sketches of some parts and also of an instrumental introduction. The formation includes eight vocal roles, a male choir and an orchestra, consisting of a flute, two clarinets, two oboes, two horns, a bassoon, and strings. The entire manuscript is damaged, hard to read, with numerous edits that have made the recovery work long and complex. The is registration is based solely and exclusively on the entire autograph material available.
