  • Description

Monica Vasconcelos, Ingrid Laubrock, Ife Tolentino and Chris Wells are the close cosmopolitan collective that make up the band Nois 4.
The year 2000 saw the release of their critically acclaimed debut album on the Candid label "Bom Dia".
This October will herald their highly anticipated follow up "Gente".
Recorded in Sao Paulo over the course of the Brazilian summer the album features a very special collaboration with celebrated singer/composer Guinga.
Guinga is regarded as a virtuoso guitarist and a rare first class composer from the Brazilian music scene.
His first album "Simples e Absurdo" was released thorough Velas in 1991, featuring illustrious collaborations by Chico Buarque and Leny Andrade.
Guninga has gone on to record eight solo albums in Brazil and has built up a reputation as one of the countries most prolific and respected songwriters.
When Guinga is not writing songs he is pulling Brazilian teeth (a certified orthodontist), which has garnered him the nickname "The Dentist".
Guinga's career was recently celebrated with the publishing of a biography entitled "Beneath The Unknown", a celebration of his musical achievements and way of life.
Monica Vasconcelos who handles the vocals in Nois 4 explains why they choose to record the album in Brazil and work with Guinga: "Working in Brazil enabled us to soak up the atmosphere and be close to our musical roots - at the time of recording we were playing sell-out gigs around Brazil and we were really feeling the music.
The record captures the heat of Sao Paulo and Rio, old and new friends.
Guinga's music has such dramatic substance and in working with him we are paying tribute to our musical heritage and pushing it forward.
Guinga links Brazil's past to the future, I feel honoured to be able to interpret Guinga's songs."
