  • Description

The complete original album Sketches of Spain, the third collaboration between Miles Davis and Gil Evans, following 'Miles Ahead'and 'Porgy and Bess'.

As a bonus to this masterpiece, Poll Winners have included three other tunes previously recorded by Miles, on which the Spanish feeling is also evident and which, in a sense, foreshadow the making of Sketches of Spain. Includes a 24-page comprehensive booklet.

"This recording is one of the most important musical triumphs that this century has yet produced. It brings together under the same aegis two realms that in the past have often worked against one another -the world of the heart and the world of the mind. To Davis and Evans goes not the distinction of five or ten or a zillion stars in a review rating, but the burden of continuing to show us theway." - ***** Bill Mathieu, Down Beat

    Description

Miles Davis' iconic 'Sketches of Spain' album, plus 4 bonus tracks, includes 20-page booklet with new specially prepared liner notes by Penguin Guide to Jazz's writer Brian Morton and by Paris' prestigious Jazz Magazine.

"Late in his life, Miles Davis recorded soundtrack music for a not-very-good film called Siesta. Most of the music was written by bassist and collaborator Marcus Miller, but the spirit of the music was all Miles Davis. Critics immediately compared it, unfavourably, to Sketches of Spain, which since its release in 1960 has been one of the most widely distributed and popular of all jazz records. Even people who don't collect jazz records tend to have a copy tucked away somewhere." - Penguin Guide To Jazz

"This recording is one of the most important musical triumphs that this century has yet produced. To Davis and Evans goes not the distinction of five or 10 or a zillion stars in a review rating, but the burden of continuing to show us the way." - DownBeat Magazine

"Sketches of Spain remains, and rightly so, one of the jewels of Miles Davis' discography." - Jazz Magazine (France)

    Description

LIMITED 180-GRAM VIRGIN VINYL EDITION - COMPLETE ALBUM + BONUS TRACK. Sketches of Spain was Miles Davis and Gil Evans' third conceptual album, the first being "Miles Ahead" in 1957, followed by their adaptation of George Gershwin's music for "Porgy and Bess"in 1958. On Sketches of Spain, Miles stated in his autobiography that the whole concept came out of listening to Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez".
