Description
'This is a splendid fellow and musician' - this is how Schumann characterized the then 26-year-old Danish colleague Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817-1890).
The program of this production offers evidence of three different creative periods of the composer.
An early work is the first violin sonata in A major Op.6, dedicated to Clara Schumann, the second in D minor Op.21, dedicated to his friend and patron Robert, was written in 1850, and the third in B flat major Op.59 belongs to the circle of late compositions.
Among Gade's last works ever is the charming collection Volkstanze im nordischen Charakter Op.52, dedicated to the great violinist Joseph Joachim.
