Description
Les Freres Smith is a Paris based 14 piece collective specialising in Afrobeat and Ethio-flavoured grooves. For more than 10 years the band has been putting on explosive live performances across France and Europe and has collaborated artists such as Tony Allen, Kutiman, Franck Biyong and Kokolo.
With artwork by street artist Grems, 'Contreband Mentality' gives new directions to Afrobeat, freeing itself from Fela's music whilst still paying great respect to the genre. It features 11 crazy afro joints mashed up with as many influences as there are family members in the band and it brings together the cream of the Parisian afrobeat family. The great drummer Tony Allen and the crazy guitarist Oghene Kologbo from Fela's Africa '70 are featured on one track each and the album was mixed by afrobeat specialist Loik Dury (Kraked Records),and mastered by experienced producer Grant Phabao (Timec).
Personnel: Habibi Smith (drums), SubbaH Smith (bass), Alfredo El Rey Smith (percussion), Damien Smith djembe), Elvis Martinez Smith (guitar psychedelism), Thom & Fabiano Smith (guitar), Manu Mani Smith (keyboards), Tommy Smith (alto saxophone), Fabolous Fab Smith (tenor sax), Nico Sake Smith (baritone sax), Roulio Garros Smith (trumpet), Prosper Smith (sax, vocals), ChristoFolly Smith, Huberthe Smith (vocals) plus special guests Tony Allen (drums - 1), Oghene Kologbo (guitar - 4)
