Description
"Was it really necessary to suggest another recording of these four so famous and often - or even too often? - played Mozart works?
I had two reasons for doing so: firstly, the extraordinary quality of the music, and secondly, my personal need to show these pieces from a fresh, new angle as regards their instrumentation – namely, in a pure string quartet formation, but with two violins, viola, and double bass (instead of cello)."
This is what Sigiswald Kuijken writes about his recording of the "Kleine Nachtmusik", which is without question one of Mozart's most famous pieces.
He combines it with the three Divertimenti K 136-138, which wonderfully complement the Kleine Nachtmusik in their scoring, lightness and complaisance.
The "grand seigneur of early music" remains true to his insights of recent years in this recording as well, making music in a small ensemble with solo instruments.
In the coming year 2022, he will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ensemble La Petite Bande.
