Description
This second album on the DUX label, featuring music by 20th century Polish composer Ryszard Bukowski, includes orchestral works with voice, trumpet and jazz rhythm section but above all piano, on which the solo parts are played by Maria Magdalena Bukowska, the composer's widow. The pieces are characterized by a wide range of styles - from Neoclassicism, typical of the early stage of his work, focusing the listener's attention on rhythmic elements and counterpoints, through references to jazz, although without improvisation, to sonoristic discoveries, asceticism and clarity of structure reminiscent of Lutoslawski and of the lyricism of the Second Viennese School.
Bukowski's music eludes traditional tonal systems and traditional forms, leaving performers a lot of room to shape an individual concept.
