Description
Lovingly mastered from old tapes found in a friend's attic, this is a vintage
collection of previously unreleased rarities and early works by one of the guitar's truly great innovators.
A remarkable guitarist dedicated to innovation and technical mastery who blended elements of English and Celtic folk, jazz, country blues, pre-Renaissance and Western/Eastern classical traditions, John Renbourn achieved world-wide acclaim with the band Pentangle. He was an inspirational musician who has influenced so many of today's great guitarists.
The Attic Tapes represents in John's own words, "what was happening to me at the time and a reflection of the general scene". These recordings were made in the two or three years before his first ever official release for Transatlantic Records, released in February 1966.
Mastered from a series of long lost tapes dating back to the early 1960s, the album not only features collaborations with Davy Graham and Beverley Martyn, it also includes a long lost version of Davy's classic "Anji" recorded in 1962. It includes sleeve notes by John, written shortly before his death in March 2015.
