Description
Pianist Jimmy Rowles was one of jazz's most gifted interpreters of the melodies of the Great American Songbook.
His spare style of playing accentuated only the essential, the apt and the finely horned musical phrase.
Alec Wilder described the Rowles art as "A very exciting, warm and witty landscape of music.
His preferences in harmony do not attempt to be most complete or avantgardishly fashionable but rather the richest and warmest." This 1976 date was the second recorded in the Choice studios.
Seasoned colleagues Buster Wlliams (bass) and Billy Hart (drums) help produce intriguing versions of under worked classics by Wayne Shorter, Johnny Burke and Duke Ellington as well as one of Jimmy's comprehensive trademark medleys.
