  • Description

Limited CD in mini-LP packaging with gatefold sleeve and inner paper sleeve.

'The Iceman Cometh', Jerry Butler's most successful album, was the first full-album production by the legendary Philadelphian producers, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. It marked a collaboration that brought r&b production techniques to a level of maturity and elegance capable of fully complementing one of the smoothest and charismatic vocalists in soul music history. The chart singles "Hey, Western Union Man" and "Only The Strong Survive" weren't just popular radio hits, but great performances displaying how far the r&b/soul movement had progressed from the novelty-laden records of the '50s. Thanks to Butler and the Gamble and Huff team, their sound proved incredibly influential, both in the short term and up to the present day.

    Description

Limited Edition 180gram vinyl with original artwork.

'The Ice Man Cometh', Jerry Butler's most successful LP, was the first full-blown album production of legendary Philadelphian producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, which for the first time brought their r&b production techniques to a level of maturity and elegance capable of fully complimenting one of the smoothest vocalist (Jerry Butler) in soul music history. The album's top ten singles, "Hey, Western Union Man" and "Only The Strong Survive", weren't just radio hits, but great performances displaying how far the r&b/soul scene had progressed from the novelty-laden hits of the '50s. One of the most influential soul albums of all time, it established the sub-genre Philadelphia Sound and continues to be an inspiration to artist and producer to this day.
