Jefferson Airplane's sixth album Volunteers was released in 1969, a mere two years after their monumental psychedelic hippie rock album Surrealistic Pillow.Volunteers is a politically charged album, mainly dealing with the injustice of the Vietnam war. Besides its lyrical content causing controversy, the album was ahead of its time on a technological level as well. At the time, Volunteers was one of the first albums to be recorded on a state-of-the-art sixteen track tape recorder, a picture of which can be seen on the backside of the album sleeve.Musical collaborators include Stephen Stills and David Crosby. Volunteers is a crucial Jefferson record that ranks among the top albums of this seminal San Francisco psychedelic rock group.Volunteers is available on audiophile black vinyl, packaged in a gatefold sleeve.

Volunteers is Jefferson Airplane fifth studio album. The album is a real sign of the times with politically charged lyrics dealing with the injustice of the Vietnam war. The album was seen as pretty controversial, but was also really loved by critics such as Rolling Stone.
Technologically, the album was actually ahead of its time with the usage of the state-of-the-art 16-track tape machine giving the album its powerful layered sound.
Sonically and historically this album still has music fans interested after 55 years, making it a real classic.
