Description
The title says it all: Jasper van't Hof, Paul Heller, Martin Gjakonovski and Bodek Janke conduct intensive musical conversations, several of van't Hof's compositions are classics today and one can look forward to re-encounter pieces like "Pas de Deux", "Mute" or "Easy Draw".
There is much more to discover on 'Conversations': For example the title track, a duo-improvisation, based on a simple sequence of fourths by Jasper van't Hof; furthermore, two brilliant compositions by Paul Heller, especially written for this album, and tailored to the special group dynamics.
For the last 50 years the Dutch pianist and composer Jasper van't Hof has been writing musical history. In the early 1970s, he became a pioneer of free rock-jazz with Association P.C. (together with Toto Blanke, Sigi Busch and percussionist Pierre Courbois). Pork Pie was another iconic jazz-rock band founded by him. In Pork Pie, Philip Catherine and Charlie Mariano joined him among others. As a composer van't Hof created an outstanding oeuvre with inspirations coming from a broad spectrum of styles, ranging from jazz, rock and fusion, right up to classical romanticism.
The tenor saxophonist, composer and producer Paul Heller is one of the leading international tenor saxophonists. Since 2005, he is a member of the WDR Big Band. As soloist, sideman and co-leader Heller has contributed to more than 100 albums.
