Description
What is special about this release?
A special 'poisoned vinyl' edition of Ivan 'Mamao' Conti's critically acclaimed Poison Fruit album, which includes a limited edition 7" with an unreleased track from the original sessions 'Katmandu', and on the flip, a track never before on vinyl, 'Ninho'.
Why are you releasing it for RSD?
It's an opportunity to give back, something special for the shops and the heads who have supported Far Out, Mamao and Azymuth with so much love over the years!
Is there an interesting story behind its recording and/ or packaging?
With his first album in over twenty years, and the first to be released on vinyl since his 1984 classic The Human Factor, Mamão's Poison Fruit features Azymuth cohorts Alex Malheiros and Kiko Continentino on a number of tracks, but venturing into the modern discotheque (as Mamão would call it), Poison Fruit also experiments with sounds more commonly associated with house and techno, with the help of London based producer Daniel Maunick, and Thiago Maranhão (Mamão's son). This special RSD release of the album will be pressed on 180g splattered coloured vinyl (poison style!) and will also come with a limited edition 7" featuring an unreleased track from the original sessions 'Katmandu', and on the flip, a track never before on vinyl, 'Ninho'.
Does the artist have a particular attachment or connection to these tracks?
Mamao wrote and recorded the album with the DJs in mind "The idea was to make songs that would work well for DJs," says Conti. "I like, very much, what it sounds like when I'm playing drums alongside a DJ, with all the electronics." Having worked with the likes of Madlib, DJ Nuts and of course Daniel Maunick, as well as having had his music remixed by Max Graef, Glenn Astro, IG Culture, Contours and the 22a music crew, Mamao saw poison Fruit as an opportunity to give back to the DJs and producers who have done so much for his career with Azymuth.
Is there anything on here that customers won't expect?
The limited edition bonus 7" inside! With an unreleased track from the original sessions 'Katmandu', and on the flip, a track never before on vinyl, 'Ninho'.
