Description
It's Hotter in Hawaii
Stars include: Roy Smeck, Frank Ferera, Sol Hoopii and Ray Kinney
Early hits from a unique musical style.
Stars like Louis Armstrong made records backed by a Hawaiian guitar and numerous dance bands also exploited the sound. In compiling this collection we have generally avoided the more 'Tin Pan Alley' aspects of the music in favour of instrumental and vocal virtuosity and authenticity.
Considering the small size and remote location of the Hawaiian Islands the impact of their music across the globe is truly amazing; the icons of steel guitar - ukulele and grass-skirted hulan dancer have contributed to world entertainment since the beginnings of the Twentieth Century. As Hawaiian musicians travelled the world, first penetrating the USA, then conquering the rest of the American continent and Europe, bringing their gift into Australasia, Russia and Japan, they left behind a trail of home-grown disciples who ensured that Hawaiian music became a world-wide phenomenon and left its mark on many of the other forms of music that it rubbed up against.
