Description
The Gundecha Brothers, leading interpreters of Dhrupad, the most ancient style of Hindustani classical music, present the night raga, Raga Malkauns, one of the most beautiful, popular and ancient of the ragas.
The Dhrupad tradition is a major part of Indian culture that has survived until today in its original form. Although a simple pentatonic raga in structure, the Raga Malkauns requires great skills to convey and evoke deeply meditative raga mood. In their rendering of the raga the Gundecha Brothers fully display their ability to control the slow evolution of the raga that is developed mostly in the lower octave and in a slow tempo.
