Description
The CD contains archival recordings made for Polish Radio in 1983-84. This is yet another album presenting the achievements of outstanding Polish flautist Grzegorz Olkiewicz, a versatile soloist and chamber musician with an extremely rich repertoire. He recorded Baroque flute sonatas together with two other excellent artists, cellist Andrzej Bauer and pianist Waldemar Malicki - this time at the harpsichord. The musicians formed the Polish Trio in 1982-88, giving numerous concerts and making many archival recordings.
The works included on the album show a different approach of three masters of the Baroque - Bach, Handel and Telemann - to the flute sonata. The presented masterpieces of the genre comprise imaginatively led voices of individual instruments, contrasts of tempi and moods, masterful polyphony and virtuoso figurations. The musicians play contemporary instruments in a twentieth-century tune while obtaining the effect of Baroque lightness and improvisation.
