Description
Saxophonist and clarinettist Gregory Tardy recorded his first album, 'Crazy Love', in 1992 followed by notable associations with such legendary figures as drummer Elvin Jones and pianist Andrew Hill. 'Standards & More' is the sixth in a series of exceptional albums recorded for SteepleChase and, as the title suggests, sees this multifaceted player investigate the jazz tradition whilst moving forward at the same time.
Although hailing from the American Mid-West Tardy's formative years were spent in the musical melting pot of New Orleans in the company of Nicholas Payton, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis, Mark Turner and on the bandstand, at least, The Neville Brothers and Allen Toussaint. Later alliances were with such innovators as Steve Coleman, Bill Frisell and Dave Douglas but it's his respect for essence of the music that informs 'Standards & More', a mix of familiar standards and charismatic originals.
