Hailing from South Shields, Tyne & Wear, Gerry Monroe was an MOR singer who enjoyed huge popularity in the UK at the start of the 1970s, scoring five Top 20 singles. •He’d been spotted on TV show Opportunity Knocks by noted songwriter/performer/producer Les Reed, who signed Gerry to his label Chapter One. •Gerry’s high, distinctive falsetto was most famously heard on ‘Sally’, his remake of Gracie Fields’ 30s classic which reached No. 4 in 1970. •‘Sally’ was followed into the charts by ‘Cry’ (No. 38), ‘My Prayer’ (No. 9), ‘It’s A Sin To Tell A Lie’ (No. 13), ‘Little Drops Of Silver’ (No. 37) and ‘Girl Of My Dreams’ (No. 43). •This new 2-CD set is the first time that all of Gerry’s Chapter One recordings have been compiled, including four albums and various B-sides. •The sleeve-notes include quotes from Les Reed.
