Description
17 ORIGINAL ALBEN & 31 BONUS TITEL Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1935. His twin brother Jesse Garon was stillborn. The Presley's moved to Memphis in 1948. After finishing high school Elvis worked as a truck driver among other jobs. After he had recorded "My Happiness" as a present for his mother in Sam Phillips' SUN studio, he kept asking Phillips for a regular session. The producer finally gave in, but it took yet a few more false starts before Elvis' take on blues singer Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup's "That's Alright" was finally released as his first single on SUN. Phillips produced a total of five singles with the young Elvis on SUN before "selling" him to RCA – the rest is history. 137 songs entered the American pop charts between the years 1956 and 1982, a few of them long after his death in 1977. He also charted on the R&B- and Country & Western charts. Elvis was the leading man in 34 movies. Their plot was secondary, as they were mainly a vehicle to bring his music to the people. This 10 CD box-set collects 17 original albums by Elvis, released between 1954 and 1962. The album "King of the Whole Wide World" was only ever released in the South African Union. Also included are the 5 original singles on SUN as well as other non-LP recordings as BONUS TRACKS. This box presents a complete archive of all recordings made by the "King" between 1954 and 1962. It includes all of his chart successes, but also many great songs hidden away on LPs. Elvis shows that apart from Rock'n'Roll he was also a master at interpreting Rhythm & Blues, Spirituals, Country & Western or even simple torch songs. These are the beginnings of Elvis Presley, impressively documenting the unique rise to fame of this artist of the century.
