Description
Baritone Dominique Cote conceived of the album 'Amour et Fantaisie: melodies de Lionel Daunais' as a portrait that pays homage to a unique artist in the Canadian musical landscape.
Daunais was celebrated as a writer, composer, author, performer, artistic director, and radio host. His catchy music is influenced by French melodies and songs, sometimes with a jazzy edge.
A man of the theatre, Daunais managed to create entire characters and scenarios within the space of a song.
"Lionel Daunais is the first of our songwriters. Before him, one would never have imagined that one of our own could sing 75 of his own songs without ever repeating himself. Nor would one have ever thought that a Canadian singer would perform a beautiful melody from his own pen with the Concerts Symphoniques, and the next day, bring the entire hall to laughter with a comical refrain or an epitaph set to music with fierce humour."
