Description
DOC WATSON's only son, Merle, had just turned fifteen when he started to play the guitar. His Dad had left on the longest tour he had ever taken and expected to be gone for two months or more. By the time Doc got back home, Merle was able to play finger style guitar with a thumb pick and he could back up a fiddle with a flat pick as solidly as any fiddler could hope for. At the time DOC WATSON & SON was made, Merle had been playing for about eight months, and was recorded shortly after they performed their first concerts together in California. As Doc described at the time, "The music just seems to run right out of the ends of his fingers".
