Description
10 CD box set featuring ten original albums by world-class pianist Clara Haskil, recorded 1934-1960. Highlights from the history of interpretation, including concertos and solo works by Bach, Scarlatti, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Ravel. Features appearances by such contemporaries as Igor Markevitch, Ernest Ansermet, Alceo Galliera and Géza Anda.
According to the conductor Gustave Doret Haskil was "one of those extraordinarily gifted individuals whose very being is filled with music, who has that wonderful instinct for musical expression that can be achieved neither by hard work nor by effort of will alone". These 10 original albums with bonus tracks dating from 1934 to 1960 constitute a fine documentation of the highly cultivated and sensitive playing of an exceptional pianist.
Her legendary reputation as an interpreter of Mozart is in keeping with the large proportion of excellent Mozart recordings. Further highlights in the history of interpretation, here taken from the violin repertoire, are the Beethoven sonatas that Haskil and Arthur Grumiaux recorded (a selection). Concertos as well as solo works by Bach, Scarlatti, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Ravel can also be heard, and taking part are several of her great contemporaries, such as Igor Markevitch, Ernest Ansermet, Alceo Galliera, Géza Anda among others.
