Description
Originally released in 1959, five years after Charlie Parker's untimely death, the two LP set 'Diz 'n' Bird - The Beginning', which received a five-star rating on Down Beat, was a compilation of obscure early bebop recordings, taking segments from a 1947 quintet set by Parker and Gillespie at Carnegie Hall, and from a 1953 Gillespie quintet concert at Salle Pleyel, and coupling them with a handful of Bird's 1947 Dial sides.
This 2-CD set includes the complete 1947 Carnegie Hall set, plus the entire Salle Pleyel concert, along with the Dial tracks originally selected, and adds a superb full 1951 radio show recorded at Birdland also presenting Bird and Diz as a team, with the great Bud Powell on piano.
The Poll Winners label is devoted to the CD reissue of albums that received the maximum 5-star rating in a DownBeat album review. This only rarely happened, and most of the DownBeat albums have become true classics revered by all music lovers. These new editions present the complete original 5-star albums, which are expanded to include interesting bonus albums or tracks by the artist at the peak of their talents.
