Description
Camerata Trajectina has been the leading ensemble for Dutch music from the Middle Ages to the early Baroque for almost 50 years. With Revolution! it pushes its boundaries to the early 19th century.
With a bang, the French Revolution changes the face of Europe. Down with the wealthy autocrats, the citizen in power! The years around 1800 are also for the Netherlands a time full of conflicts, social changes and political upheavals. The Patriots fight against the royalists, and with Napoleon's invasion, another foreign party joins them.
Camerata Trajectina makes the complexity of this history tangible. Language, politics, culture; music runs right through everything. A song is explosive material: it incites the crowd, it ridicules your opponent, it proclaims the truth of every party. Where music and text come together, the blood flows faster.
Camerata Trajectina developed this project in collaboration with scientist Renée Vulto (Dutch Literature, Ghent University), within the research project 'Singing Communities' about the political song culture between 1780 and 1820.
Hand numbered limited edition of 1000 copies.
