Description
The deep English sound of Brass Monkey is unique in the contemporary folk world. Their acoustic mix of guitar and mandolin, accordion and concertina along with brass and percussion is instantly recognisable, at once an innovative new sound for contemporary ears and an ancient noise going back centuries. The core of Brass Monkey is MARTIN CARTHY, long considered the most important and influential of English singers and instrumentalists on the folk scene and a previous winner of the Singer Of The Year award in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and JOHN KIRKPATRICK, universally recognised as one of greatest squeezebox players England has produced. Their lineage stems from the great folk groups of the 1960s and '70s, playing key roles in Steeleye Span, The Richard Thompson Band, The Albion Band and The Watersons. This new album is a fantastic mix of songs and tunes, some going as far back as John Playford’s Complete Dancing Master of 1651. Brilliantly recorded, FLAME OF FIRE is a splendid listening experience and their best album yet. Brass Monkey is touring behind this release, taking the glorious sound of FLAME OF FIRE to audiences up and down the country. It will build on the established sales records set by their previous best selling albums.
