Universally hailed as the King of the Blues, the legendary B.B. King's nearly seven-decade career ended when he passed away in Las Vegas, on May 14, 2015. One of the most imitated of all the blues giants, King projected tremendous presence on stage, both singing and playing guitar.
This essential collector's edition includes one of King's lesser-known gems from his most inspired years, the splendid, 'The Soul of B.B. King'. It was issued by Modern Records' subsidiary label Custom, and previous to them, by Crown Records under the simple title, 'King'. The ten songs include urban blues, as well as R&B shuffles and some swinging numbers with organ and horns, such as "Please Remember Me," "Come Back Baby," and the romping "You Never Know", a Maxwell Davis production from the 1960s with a powerful brass section and lively organ playing.
This blues masterpiece has been remastered for this very special collectors' edition, which also includes 12 bonus tracks from the same period; featuring the great "I Got to Find My Baby," the infectious R&B "Come By Here," the groovy instrumental "Mashing the Popeye," and the blues ballad "The Fool". The set also includes two great numbers where King shows his love for soul music. All of these fabulous songs provide a solid and revealing portrait of B.B. King's versatility as well as his rightful place in the blues pantheon.
